Well, 3 is the perfect number in this case because these 3 Tips on how to stay motivated to lose weight all work hand in hand with each other. 3 is a great number because it is really all you need to stay motivated. It’s just the right amount to get you where you need to be, and at the same time not become overwhelmed. So let’s get into it!
My 3 Tips To Stay Motivated To Lose Weight
First off, let’s go over why it’s important to stay motivated when losing weight. In all honesty, even as a health coach who WANTS you to come to me for my services (as that’s how I make a living), the fact of the matter is you already know what you need to do to lose weight. For the most part anyway. You know you have to eat healthier, exercise, etc. But what stops you from doing it? Well, lack of motivation is definitely one of the factors holding you back. Motivation is like unseen energy. You can’t put a weight on it, a number on it, etc. It is just there or it isn’t. And it varies in degrees. However motivation can push you over the edge and allow you to accomplish something you otherwise may not have been able to do so. That’s why it’s important to take these 10 Tips To Stay Motivated to heart when trying to lose weight.
Tip 1 – Losing Weight Is A Marathon
Now I am putting this one first for a specific reason. What do I mean by losing weight is a marathon? What I mean is it takes TIME! The minute you tell yourself this will be a quick fix is the minute you lose grip of sustainable motivation when losing weight. The mind and body are very powerful and they work together perfectly. Your mind knows when it is being fooled and your body bears the brunt of it. So setting the right mindset for your weight loss journey is crucial! Now yes you can start losing a pound or two pretty quickly, depending on what you’re doing. However to achieve your ideal physique and lose all the weight you want in a way that LASTS, it takes time. Tell yourself that, remind yourself of that, and you will stay motivated much more effectively!
Tip 2 – Create An Anchor
What is an anchor you may ask? Well, an anchor is something I prescribe to all my clients. It is an object that one keeps accessible at all times, or can be seen/touched at least once a day, to remind him/her of what it is he/she is trying to accomplish and why it’s so important to do so. One such anchor a client of mine had used was a dress in the size she wanted to eventually fit in. She had it hanging in her closet as the first item she saw every morning she went in there to change. It was a GREAT reminder of her goals, and a great motivator to keep her daily actions in line with those goals. Other examples people use are pictures of themselves when they used to be a lower weight, or pictures of themselves now because they want to make sure they don’t remain that way. You can get creative, what’s important is this anchor produces strong feelings inside of you because that will motivate you.
Tip 3 – Have Fun
Cliche? Perhaps a bit. However when trying to lose weight, or trying to accomplish anything for that matter, in order to stay motivated you have to be enjoying what you’re doing! You have to have fun, plain and simple. I know for a fact I can get caught up in chasing my goals to the point where I’m not having fun anymore. And when that happens I have to take a step back. If I’m not having fun what’s the point of it all? So have fun when trying to lose weight. You have something to do, and it’s exciting and it’s the PROCESS that matters even more than the end goal. The journey, the funny things that happen, the mistakes made, the profound realizations that arise, the friends and people you meet along the way! There is something fun to be found in EVERY process, you just have to go out there and find it.
In the end, staying motivated takes work. Being happy takes work. I’m not kidding here. It’s actually something you have to strive for, put effort into. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. Read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. She proclaims, and I agree, that you have to actually make time and execute your plans for happiness. Same goes with staying motivated when losing weight. In order to truly answer the question of how to stay motivated to lose weight, you have to look inside yourself and ask what am I willing to do to accomplish my goals?
