Obviously this being a fitness/health blog I will be providing 5 ways to stay motivated based on that perspective, however these 5 ways to stay motivated can be applied to ANY aspect in your life, whether it be with your fitness goals, career goals or family/personal goals. So let’s get motivated, and get right to it!
Why 5 Ways To Stay Motivated?
We all lose motivation at times, however if you’ve noticed there are some people who consistently stay motivated. Again, they may fall off for a day here, or a day there, it happens even to the best of us but what separated the successful (in terms of achieving their goals) is how they are able to re-motivate themselves over and over again regardless of any slump they may come across. That is why it is important and why I have chosen to share my 5 ways to stay motivated.
My 5 Ways To Stay Motivated
1. Keep Your Goals In Mind
It’s easier said then done, however number one on my 5 ways to stay motivated lines everything up for me and should for you as well. So in terms of everything I do, I ask myself, “Does this coincide with my goals?” For instance I kid you not when I tell you some people actually make fun of me for sleeping at what they believe is a ridiculously early time. For the most part, I almost always am asleep by 9:30 pm. But my goal is to be in the BEST possible shape I can be, and to strive for a long and high quality life even through my later years. In order to perform my best at the gym, when I’m running or even at work or here on the blog, I have to make sure I get a good 8 hours of sleep. Also, I accomplish more when I’m up and about early in the morning. So it doesn’t phase me, whatever anyone thinks and nothing and no one can sway me from doing things differently, because I keep my goals in mind. And that in turn keeps me motivated!
2. Specify Your Priorities
Coinciding with keeping your goals in mind, and perhaps to delve just a little deeper, in order to stay motivated I find it best to be specific with what is important in your life. Once I was able to prioritize the most important things and people in my life I was able to come up with goals I was proud of, excited about, and that I LOVED! And your priorities are constantly changing, because life is always changing. There will be a core of priorities that will always remain, however depending on the stage or moment in your life you are at, these priorities will move around. However this is probably the most important element in my 5 ways to stay motivated. I say this about this and number 1 because these are the basis for everything you do. And when you have a strong basis or foundation, you will be like a freight train when it comes to motivation. Nothing, and i mean nothing will stop you from heading towards the direction you so choose.
3. Emulate Greatness
Regardless of who you emulate yourself after, you want to emulate the GREAT things about that person. We all have our faults, and no matter who your hero is, if you were to truly learn EVERYTHING about them, in some shape or form you would be let down, or at the very least would disagree with that individual in different aspects of life. With all that being said though, it is ALWAYS striving for greatness that separates the consistently motivated from the “every now and then” motivated. With that being said, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US has the ability to be our GREATEST possible self. And by emulating others’ work ethic, drive, etc. we can find an endless source of motivation.
4. Be In The Moment
Perhaps, no most certainly, the most challenging aspect of my 5 ways to stay motivated, for me anyways, is being and staying in the moment. Being or present mind is always difficult as there is an infinite amount of distractions out there. There are thoughts running in and out of my head a million times a day at speeds of light and sound! However when I am able to tune in to the moment, regardless if it is from the most mundane activity to the activities I love most, I am able to stay motivated and stay on track! When I have the presence of mind when I am doing something as dull as washing the dishes, I can appreciate and push myself even harder when I am doing the things I truly love or prioritize, such as working out, building my career, and raising my daughter. Being in the moment will keep you motivated; being in the moment IS motivation.
5. Have Fun
Find different aspects of whatever it is you are doing that are fun or appealing to you. Trust me, it gets boring doing some of the things my daughter wants to do, but I can stay motivated to not only be in the moment but to make the most of the moment and her upbringing by finding aspects or CREATING aspects that are fun for me regardless of what we are doing. Same applies to anything else you do, from working out, to work, hell even being locked up. Create fun, or find fun, either way HAVE FUN and you will HAVE MOTIVATION!
In the end, these are my top 5 ways to stay motivated, and of course it will differ for all of us. And of course it goes without saying, I have a few other ways to stay motivated as we all should. So whatever it is that you currently do to stay motivated, whether it is working for you or not, if you can add my list of 5 ways to stay motivated to your current list of motivating factors, I think you will be in good shape. Scratch that, you’ll be in GREAT shape!
